Are you looking to hire the right personal trainer to achieve your fat loss goals?

Now, hiring a trainer is a very important decision because hiring the wrong one can lead to injuries, a slowing of your metabolism and money wasted.

However, you hire the right personal trainer and you will lose the weight properly and keep it off forever

Why am I writing this article?

Having been in the fitness industry for almost 8+ years I have seen what works and what does not.

With that experience, I want you to be able to make an informed intelligent decision when hiring a trainer.

For this reason, I am going to go over things you must ask, observe and look into when you look to hire the right personal trainer.

Let us get into it!

How is My Training Program Going to be Unique to Me?

Each individual is unique and you are no different. Every person moves differently and has different strengths and limitations.

Therefore, doing a one size fits all program can not only hinder your results but lead to a serious injury.

For example, if you have knee issues, your personal trainer would create a program tailored around that specific injury.

However, if you go to just a regular Bootcamp, who knows how individually tailored your programs going to be because you will in all likelihood be doing a circuit.

A big problem with a lot of boot camps is that they don’t care about form because it’s about doing the exercises for a certain amount of reps or within a certain time period.

And how can one person simply go around changing 15-20 peoples form all at once?

It’s just not possible.

This is not to say all boot camps are bad, however, but there are a ton of ’em out there like this.

For this reason, ask how much of your training is going to be unique to you.

Lastly, if you have limitations ask how the trainer will work around it.

How Exactly Are You Going to Help Me With My Eating Habits?

This is an important one because a lot of times what happens is trainers will put you on a super low-calorie diet that is ultra restrictive and in no way sustainable.

This will hinder your long term metabolism.

Will you see results initially when going on a super strict diet? Absolutely.

However, the danger is that you will fall off and binge.

Therefore, when hiring the right personal trainer ask them proper questions surrounding the diet.

Below are some questions to ask:

  • Can I still eat my favorite foods in moderation? (The answer is yes)
  • How many calories should I be eating? ( The answer is it depends)
  • How should I eat after I lost the weight? Can I eat a bit more? (A reverse diet would be ideal after a diet)

By asking these questions and knowing the answers to them you can simply sift or sort through who knows what they are talking about and who does not!

How will You be Tracking My Progress?

This cannot be emphasized enough, but make sure your trainer tracks your progress!

How should they be tracking your progress?

There are 4 ways your progress can be tracked:

1) The Scale: Now, the scale can be a helpful tool to see how you’re progressing, but it won’t tell you everything. It cannot tell you your muscle to fat ratio, how you have gotten stronger and how great you feel to name a few. Therefore, using it in combination with the below 3 ways can make it a helpful tool!

2) Measurements: This tool can be an amazing way to see how you are progressing. You can see how many inches you have lost from your sternum, stomach, hip, and arms by simply measuring them every 4 weeks. Having said that, measurements have limitations as well because you cannot measure every single part of the body and this is where the next tool can help you.

3) Your Clothes: The beautiful thing about clothing is that you can tell how every part of the shirt or pants fits you. You will be able to tell where it’s loose from and things of that nature. This is why it is vital to use your clothes to measure your progress because you will be able to see what measurements can’t fully tell you.

4) Before & Afters: Taking pictures every 4 weeks can help you get a great visual of where you are tightening up from. This is something none of the aforementioned tools can do. The best way to take before and after pictures is to take them in the morning from a front angle and side. Also, make sure to do so in minimal clothing!

Using the above mentioned tools together can give you a better overall picture then just simply relying on one.

Therefore, when you hire the right personal trainer make sure they do your measurements and hold you accountable to take pictures and be aware of how your clothes fit!

When you hire the right personal trainer you will be taught to not JUST rely on the scale

Am I Guaranteed a Result?

You know you have hired the right personal trainer when they guarantee you a result.

Why?

Because you will know that he/she believes in their programming and knowledge so much so that they can guarantee you a particular result.

A guarantee you could see from the right personal trainer is you losing 3-5 inches off your body in 30 days.

Some will even do a money back guarantee if you don’t lose the 3-5 inches in your first 30 days.

Therefore, when hiring a trainer you must ask “Am I guaranteed a result?”

Great personal trainers will get the job done because they are prepared and know how to get the best out of YOU!

Last Words

By following the guidelines above you can assure yourself that you will make an informed and intelligent decision by not be putting your fat loss goals in the hands of the wrong person!
