Is the Scale Accurate for Fat Loss?

You are currently viewing Is the Scale Accurate for Fat Loss?

Are you relying only on the scale to get an accurate picture of your weight/fat loss progress? Well, you may be doing yourself a disservice because there’s a lot the scale cannot tell you.

The scale cannot tell you how many inches you’ve lost. It cannot tell you how loose your clothes have gotten. Lastly, it cannot tell you how flat your stomach is and how different you look in pictures!

This is not to say to the scale is not a useful tool, because it is. This is just to say that to get an overall accurate picture of how you’re progressing in your fat loss journey, you want to use all the measuring tools.

For this reason, I am going to go over 3 other tools you must use to get the most accurate picture when it comes to your fat loss progress.

1. Measurements

don't just use the scale for fat loss, measure your body too!

Taking measurements is absolutely vital when it comes to seeing how you are progressing in your fat loss journey. Why? Because you will be able to see what areas you’re losing inches from and how much. This is something the scale cannot tell you.

Generally, measuring your chest, below your chest, waist, hips, arms, upper thigh and mid-thigh is a great way to get a good idea of how things are progressing for you.

Measuring every 4 weeks is a sure-fire way to keep you on track and give you an idea that you’re progressing in the right direction.

However, measurements do have certain limitations. We cannot measure every single part of the body. This is why, if you lose an X amount of inches, it could be MORE due to not being able to measure every single part of the body.

Therefore, using the other two methods below, along with measurements, is very helpful!

2. Before & After Pictures

Don't just use the scale for fat loss accuracy, use before and after pictures too

Sometimes looking into the mirror every day we don’t usually see the minor changes are bodies are making. For this reason, taking before and after pictures are absolutely crucial to see far you have come!

How should you take the pictures? Well, a front angle and side angle, with minimal clothing on would be optimal to see body composition changes.

Doing this every 4 weeks, you’ll get an amazing visual of how much your bodies changing and where it’s changing from. With this knowing, it will keep you motivated and keep that fire burning to achieve your fat loss goals.

3. Clothes

Typically you know how your clothes fit and wear they are tight from and things of that nature. This is why seeing how loose your clothes are getting is an amazing way to see how far you’ve come in your fat loss journey

With that knowing, be aware of how your shirts are fitting, pants, and for the ladies, your dresses.

Furthermore, the limitation of measurements is that you cannot measure every single part of the body. For this reason, using your clothes and seeing where they are looser is a powerful way to see where those inches are going down from!

Lastly, once you can no longer fit into your old clothes, find a garbage bag and fill that sucker up. Don’t hoard em, donate them and don’t look back because you won’t be going back to your old body!

Conclusion

Using just the scale for fat loss accuracy will not give you a real truth about your progress. Instead, use all the above-mentioned ways, along with the scale to give yourself the most accurate depiction of how your journey is going.

Lastly, speed up your weight loss progress by consuming more protein and creating a proper calorie deficit. You do these things, you will see results not only quickly, but you’ll create habits to keep the weight off!
